The job search process, regardless of whether it is the first or should be the next step in your career and professional growth, inevitably begins with writing a resume. It seems that it is easier to load a standard sample, fill in the correct fields and start sending the finished document to the addresses of interest.

But no, now the competition in the labor market is significant, employers control the ball, and, having the opportunity to choose, they begin to disassemble the candidates. Of course, in such a situation, the importance of a proper resume, from which the employer will start to meet you, increases dramatically, and you will not succeed with only one standard. What should the size be of this document? Let’s think about it. A recruiter or a direct employer who has received dozens of resumes for his vacancy never has time to read a lot. Therefore, experts recommend building a correct resume so that it is on one printed page.

The correct resume is informative and no more

Of course, brevity will not always be appropriate, and it will not be possible to contain everything on one page, if you are, for example, the highest executive director or an eminent researcher. Only a list of achievements and regalia will take half a page. But in other cases, you should refrain from the desire to tell about yourself in a mini-plot of 2-3 pages. If your qualification is enough for a free job, list everything that may concern it.

A resume is not just a list

Seeking to achieve this golden mean, do not overdo it. Do not turn your resume into a regular list of past works. However, a resume is a small biographical document, so do not forget about dates and positions to indicate at least a little what experience you have gained and you achieved (if, of course, you have something to say). The text should be typed on a computer, and the font should be Times New Roman 12.
